Minimum wage tariff for domestic helpers and domestic workers successfully negotiated
Trade union vida achieves inflation compensation and significant plus for low incomes.
The trade union vida has successfully renegotiated the minimum wage tariff (MLT) for domestic helpers and domestic workers or employees in private households. The new MLT was completed on 4 December and has now been published in the Federal Law Gazette. It affects around 6,500 employees throughout Austria and will come into force on 1 January 2026.
Noticeable wage increases from 2026
Significant wage increases were achieved as part of the negotiations:
- + 3.7 percent for the lowest wages (wage group A less than 2,000 euros gross, excluding non-cash benefits for board and lodging)
- + 3.3 percent for all other wage groups
- + 3.3 percent for allowances and supplements
This has provided good coverage of inflation for employees in private households. Particularly pleasing: The lower wage groups in particular benefit above average.
Domestic helpers and domestic workers make an indispensable contribution to the everyday lives of many people. The wage increases that have now been achieved will help to upgrade this work financially and prevent income losses due to inflation.
