Ryanair has announced that it will withdraw three aircraft from Vienna at the end of October and will no longer fly to Billund, Santander, and Tallinn.

Wizz Air is closing its base in Vienna. On 26 October 2025, two aircraft will be withdrawn from Vienna and the routes to Bilbao and London Gatwick will be discontinued. The remaining three aircraft and all other routes from Vienna will cease operations in March 2026.

In order to ensure the safety of passengers, only persons who are trustworthy and who do not pose a risk are allowed access to sensitive areas of aviation. For this purpose, the Ministry of Mobility in Austria carries out so-called reliability checks. However, in more than 100 cases, insignificant offences at Vienna Airport alone lead to employees losing their jobs.

As part of Hungary's Council Presidency, vida trade unionist Daniel Liebhart is calling for better working conditions for HungaroControl's air traffic controllers.

If the survey of union members on the management's current collective bargaining offer ends with "no", Hebenstreit cannot rule out further strikes. He understands the displeasure about strikes, they are not pleasant for anyone, but they are the last measure.
