Gewerkschaft vida

We stand up for you and your colleagues! In the collective bargaining negotiations, we advocate for around one million employees in various industries

Our goals for the current negotiations

  1. Securing real wage gains – especially for low income groups
  2. Create attractive working conditions to meet staffing needs
  3. Improvements in the framework law – but these are no substitute for fair wages

You can't complain about the shortage of skilled workers on the one hand and slow down wages on the other.

Useful knowledge about the collective agreement

Many of your working conditions are set out in the collective agreement (KV). For example, it regulates wages and salaries, bonuses, holiday and Christmas bonuses, working hours, holiday entitlement or notice periods.

For you as an employee, the Austrian Trade Union Confederation (ÖGB) or the trade union responsible for your industry , for example vida, negotiates.

Employers are represented by the Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Austrian Industries and other employers' associations.

Almost all employees (98%) in Austria are covered by a collective agreement.

If you are not sure which collective agreement applies to you, check your service slip. It states which collective agreement is used in your employment relationship. In addition, the current collective agreement must be available in each company so that you can read about it.

You can also search for your collective agreement online under kollektivvertrag.at .

The union derives demands based on the economic situation of the industry and the 12-month inflation. The package of demands includes, for example, the targeted wage increases and changes to the framework law.

The union will hand over these demands to the employers' side on the first day of negotiations. This is usually followed by a counteroffer from the Chamber of Commerce.

If the negotiations falter, the union organises works council conferences, meetings and rallies. If no agreement is reached, strikes are also possible. It often takes several rounds of negotiations and long nights before a deal is reached.
