Collective agreement negotiations for private hospitals still without conclusion

Employer's offer means massive loss of real wages – 96 percent of employees ready for union action.

The trade union vida has clearly rejected the employers' offer. This would make employees poorer in real terms for years to come and ignores the already extremely stressful working conditions in the private health sector.

Employers push for three-year agreement

The employers continued to insist on a three-year collective bargaining agreement. In addition, wage increases are not to take effect until July 2026 – a further delay at the expense of the employees who bear responsibility for patients and the entire hospital operation on a daily basis.

The previous employer offer at a glance:

  • from 1 July 2026: + 2.75 per cent
  • from 1 August 2027: + 1 per cent
  • from 1 September 2028: + 1.25 per cent

In view of inflation, this offer means a massive loss of real wages.

"Don't make employees poorer"

In addition to the inadequate wage offers, there were also no relevant improvements in the framework law. For the trade union vida, this is not acceptable.

The situation in private hospitals is already extremely stressful. The colleagues report constantly stepping in, working under time pressure - and with the highest level of responsibility. We cannot support a further deterioration.

96 percent agree with union measures

The patience of the employees is at an end. In recent weeks, numerous works meetings have taken place - with a clear result: 96 percent of the participants were in favor of union action if the next round of negotiations did not bring any noticeable improvement.

For the coming week, the trade union vida is planning a works council conference at which the further course of action will be discussed.

Health system needs fair working conditions

"It cannot be that those who maintain the health system come under more and more pressure," Steer emphasizes. "These are people who care for patients with neurological diseases, accompany addicts, care for sick children or keep the entire hospital running smoothly. Further deteriorating their working conditions would have negative consequences for the entire population."

The trade union vida expects a fair and appreciative offer for the next round, which at least compensates for inflation and brings real improvements.

Next hearing date in January 2026

The next round of negotiations is scheduled for January 12, 2026 . The employers have announced that they will present a revised offer by then. If this again falls short of the expectations of the employees, they are prepared to take further steps together.
