KV Negotiations Social Economy 2024
Plus 4 percent achieved for the 130,000 employees in the private health and social sector.
KV negotiation
The trade unions GPA and vida have handed over their demands for the 130,000 employees in the private health and social sector (Social Economy Austria – SWÖ) to the employers. The focus of the union demands is a salary increase of +6.1 percent. In addition, there is an extensive package of demands in the framework law.
In addition to the salary increase, various measures are demanded for classification and relief, also in the area of working hours (more vacation, less normal working hours ).
Long training - low salary
Eva Scherz, negotiator for the GPA trade union, says: "The work in the health and social sector is highly professional. That's how it has to be paid. Although our industry is made up of professionals with long training and a lot of experience, their salaries are still below average. A decent increase is a sign of respect for their excellent work."
"In addition to the salary increase , we are calling for measures to increase roster security and relieve the burden on colleagues. To make the industry more attractive, better working conditions are needed."
The first round of negotiations will take place on 22 October. The current collective agreement has been in force since 1 January 2024 for 130,000 employees in over 100 professions. The proportion of women is over 70 percent, and the part-time rate is also 70 percent.

We have a degree!
On November 25, 2024, an agreement was reached after hours of collective bargaining negotiations. For 130,000 employees in the private health and social sector, the Collective Agreement for the Social Economy Austria applies. After three rounds of negotiations, hundreds of actions, works meetings and demonstrations, the trade unions vida and GPA were able to increase the pressure and push through a salary and wage increase of + 4 percent.
"Thank you to everyone who stood behind us at the rallies, actions and works meetings. This was the only way this deal was possible."
Update: November 11, 2024
"If you want to make the industry more attractive, you need two decisive factors: a higher salary and better working conditions. In today's negotiations, we have addressed both, but we have not been able to perceive any significant movement on the part of the employers. This is not the treatment that the employees, who achieve socially relevant top performances every day, have deserved."
Second round interrupted: No movement by employers on salary.
The second round of negotiations for the 130,000 employees of the Collective Agreement for the Social Economy Austria was interrupted after 10 hours. Since there has been no movement on the part of the employers regarding the salary increase, we are increasing the pressure with works meetings, actions and demonstrations. The employers have not increased their offer in line with the inflation rate.
The following trade union measures are now being taken:
- Works meetings throughout Austria during working hours
- Works council conference in Styria (12.11.2024)
- Demonstration in Vienna (18.11.2024)
- Rally in Linz (19.11.2024)
- various public actions
- Austria-wide campaign "6 minutes for 6.1 percent" - Employees interrupt their work for 6 minutes (22.11.2024)
"There are over a hundred different professions in the social economy. The collective agreement regulates the working conditions of all occupational groups, in some cases with specific regulations. Today we discussed our ideas for the future design of working conditions intensively with the employers. It must also be in the interest of companies to become more attractive as employers."
The next round of negotiations will take place on 25 November 2024.

Update: October 22, 2024
The first round of negotiations for the 130,000 employees of the Austrian Social Economy Collective Agreement was interrupted after 8 hours. In this round, the two trade unions GPA and vida have paid particular attention to the negotiation of working conditions. The next round of negotiations will take place on 11 November 2024.
