Christmas protest against job cuts in the health system
Savings at the expense of employees and patients? Not with us.
We care together
On 10 December, the alliance We Worries Together drew attention to the planned savings at the Viennese Order Hospitals and the Anton Proksch Institute.
"We Care Together" consists of the trade union vida, employees from the health sector and activists from civil society.
We fight for:
- Better working conditions in the health sector
- Fair wages
- A good health system for all
Action with punch, wheel of fortune and beautifully packaged cuts
Activists distributed symbolically packaged cuts and job cuts to passers-by - in keeping with the pre-Christmas season. A wheel of fortune invited to "win" further savings.
Equipped with warm punch, many passers-by got into conversation with employees and got an idea of the current situation in the Order Hospitals and the Anton Proksch Institute for themselves.
On site, Christmas cards could also be written to the city councillor for health and the ongoing petition against the cuts plans could be supported.
Background: Massive savings and threat of job cuts
The action was directed against the savings planned by the City of Vienna in the health sector:
- 75 million euros are to be cut at the religious hospitals - employers are threatening to lose around 1,800 jobs.
- At the Anton Proksch Institute, Europe's largest institution for addiction treatment, the reduction of one in five jobs is under consideration.
The alliance criticized that the health system is already working at its limits: Overworked employees, high pressure and long waiting times are already a reality. Further savings would dramatically worsen the supply situation. Instead, the following were demanded:
- Discharge
- better working conditions
- an expansion of the existing structures
The alliance announced that it would continue to actively oppose the planned cuts.
