The railway department of the trade union vida criticizes the planned use of Chinese double-decker multiple units from CRRC in Austria.
"The cherry-picking of the Westbahn must come to an end. Collect Austrian tax money via the climate ticket, expand on the high-quality red-white-red network and at the same time order from a highly subsidized Chinese lowest bidder. In difficult times for domestic industry, this is the wrong signal. Politicians must put a stop to this."
Invest taxpayers' money in domestic value creation
The trade union vida is finally calling for binding social, labour law as well as ecological and regional criteria in all public awards and subsidies and appeals to the federal government to only use tax money where it benefits domestic value creation and jobs. "Anyone who orders trains must also take responsibility, our money for our jobs," said Tauchner.
Do not give railway systems into foreign hands
At the same time, Tauchner warns of increasing technological dependence and refers to studies in Oslo (Norway), where Chinese electric buses could be controlled remotely – as Der Standard recently reported. "We must not give our railway system into foreign hands. Anyone who orders trains also orders digital control – and that has to stay with us," Tauchner sums up.
