At the end of June, Austria's cable car industry successfully concluded the collective bargaining negotiations in the fourth round with the trade union vida. The vida negotiating team, led by Andreas Hochwimmer, chairman of the cable car professional group committee in the vida trade union, was able to achieve a wage increase of 3.1 percent on collective bargaining wages from July 1, 2025, despite difficult conditions. The new collective bargaining agreement is valid until April 30, and the starting wage has been raised to 2138 euros gross per month.

Successful negotiations for employees

"For the first time, we were able to successfully negotiate a Sunday allowance for the summer months for employees in our industry," says Hochwimmer, who is also chairman of the central works council at Bergbahnen Kitzbühel. The Sunday allowance is paid out in the summer season from 1 May to 31 October.

Safe and stable in use

Kajetan Uriach, Regional Managing Director of the trade union vida Salzburg, emphasizes at the conclusion of the collective agreement that the social partnership in the cable car industry is secure and stable: "Despite the tough course of events, this year's negotiations were always characterized by mutual respect and have proven that the negotiating partners in this industry, which is so important for Austria, can meet at eye level."

Around 18,000 employees work in 250 cable car companies in the Austrian cable car industry at seasonal peak times. The industry also secures important jobs in the tourism regions.
