IDEM FM: New radio station for the Southeastern European community on 99.1 MHz

With the official start of broadcasting on May 1, 2026 at zero o'clock, the Southeastern European community in Vienna will have a new media fixture: IDEM FM will broadcast on the FM frequency 99.1 MHz as well as worldwide in a livestream on www.idem-fm.at.

The channel is run by vidaflex, the trade union initiative for EPUs and self-employed persons of the trade union vida. vidaflex was successful in the bidding process of RTR GmbH. IDEM FM is thus committed to clear values: dignity, fairness and solidarity.

"A station with and for the employees"

For vida chairman Roman Hebenstreit, the start is a logical step in modern trade union work:

Hundreds of thousands of colleagues with roots in Southeastern Europe keep this country running every day. With IDEM FM, they get a station that doesn't talk about them, but with them and for them – with information, service and music in the languages they think in.

The station sees itself not only as a medium, but also as a platform for visibility, participation and exchange.

Music as a bridge between origin and everyday life in Austria

IDEM FM relies on a clear bridging function in terms of programming. At the heart of the album is a balanced 1:1 mix of popular hits from Southeastern Europe and Austrian productions.

This not only creates recognition, but also opens up spaces: Above all, little-known artists from Austria are given a stage that is often missing in classic mainstream radio. At the same time, the cultural connection to origin remains audible – a balancing act that has long been a reality in the everyday lives of many people.

More than a "motorist radio"

Although mobile professional groups – for example in transport or tourism – are among the important listeners, IDEM FM deliberately thinks more broadly.

The channel is aimed at the entire community:
to caregivers, families, young people and all those who live and work in Vienna and beyond.

IDEM FM starts directly with a full program. In Vienna, the station can be received classically via FM on 99.1 MHz. At the same time, worldwide access will be created: The livestream can be accessed via the www.idem-fm.at website as well as via common streaming services.

Especially for transnational realities of life – between country of origin, place of work and family – this reach is more than a technical detail. It makes the station a connecting element across borders.

Media project with a clear stance

IDEM FM is a medium that deliberately stands out from purely commercial logics. Instead of just playing to target groups, the station wants to be part of the community.
