Solidarity, argumentative, sweet: 80 years of the trade union – that tastes like more!
vida Magazine
The ÖGB is celebrating its 80th birthday and we are celebrating with it.
For 80 years, the union has been committed to a good life for all. Despite its old age, our movement is young. Because there are many young people who are part of it. Like Denise Stieger from our magazine cover. Standing up for each other, standing up for others, sticking together is just as natural for the young vida trade unionist as it is for many others in our movement – that's why we achieve more. Because cohesion is our strength. Learn more from page 6.
The ÖGB fights – then as now – for fair incomes and fair working hours.
Because if you don't get a wage increase today, you will lose a lot of money in the long run – and that affects us all. There is also a need for fairness when it comes to working hours: part-time work is often not a choice, but the only way to reconcile job and care. The ÖGB is therefore calling for shorter working hours with full wage and staff compensation. More on this from page 10.
Back to the beginnings: Johann Bröthaler has been an ÖGB member for 80 years
His union has accompanied him almost his entire life. The railroad worker still remembers exactly how it all began in 1945. Learn more on page 9.
What encounter, what struggle, what cohesion connects you to your union? Share your story with us – and win! Join in – you can find out how on page 9.
Thank you for being part of our big union family!
