Collective agreement on guarding: Employer's offer is a sham

The second round of collective bargaining negotiations for the approximately 18,000 employees in the private security industry ended on Tuesday without result. "After a negotiation that lasted more than five hours, the employers broke off the talks. At the end of the day, what was left was a bogus offer that did not deliver what it promised," reports Gernot Kopp, head of negotiations for the vida trade union and chairman of the vida building management department.

According to the employers' proposal, more than half of the employees would receive only a 2.8 percent wage increase - and that with rolling inflation of 3.01 percent. "This means a de facto loss of real wages. There can be no talk of social partnership exchange. We expect an honest offer that corresponds to the realities of life of our colleagues," says Kopp.

Turnover in security increased - but employees go away empty-handed

While employers are putting the brakes on, business in the security industry is going well: sales rose by around nine percent in the previous year alone. The upcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2026 will also bring companies additional profits.

"Life is more expensive – so is work!"

vida recently demanded a wage increase of 3.5 percent in order to at least maintain the value of the work. "Rent, food, electricity, gas - all this has become more expensive. Our colleagues have to live from their work and cannot afford to sacrifice wages," emphasizes the vida trade unionist.

Kopp calls on employers to finally present a reasonable offer at the third round of negotiations on November 27 :

"Pure profit interests do not get us anywhere. If the employers do not present a fair offer, they must expect a clear answer from the employees."

Background

The vida trade union represents employees in the private security industry - including security staff, precinct drivers, porters and security services. Their work is central to the protection of events, buildings and public facilities.

Despite increasing demands and increasing responsibility, incomes in the industry have been lagging behind for years. With a fair collective agreement, vida wants to achieve fair wages, better framework conditions and long-term job security .
