Railway collective agreement: plus 3 percent, higher allowances and more vacation
A fair agreement takes into account the achievements of railway workers and brings tangible improvements.
After four intensive rounds of negotiations, the trade union vida and the Railway Association in the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKÖ) have agreed on a strong collective agreement for around 55,000 railway employees . The new rail collective agreement brings a wage increase of 3 percent (maximum 150 euros), higher bonuses and more vacation days.
"The railway industry is experiencing one passenger record after another and keeps Austria running every day, even in crisis years. Especially in times of a massive expansion of services, employees make a significant contribution to success and create added value. This performance was taken into account accordingly with the collective agreement agreement and the Benya formula also continued to be applied."
Inflation compensation and better conditions for working on Sundays and public holidays
The new agreement fully compensates for the rolling inflation of 3 percent . This ensures the purchasing power of railway workers . In addition, improvements were made to Sunday and holiday services .
"This gives recognition for work on those days when others have time off. A point that was also particularly important to the vida members in the last survey. Reaching the 6th week of vacation earlier is another element in better taking into account the stresses of the modern working world and increased productivity."
The most important points of the railway collective agreement agreement at a glance
- +3% wage increase on collective bargaining and actual salaries (max. +150 euros from December 2025)
- +3 % adjustment of valorizable ancillary payments
- +8.36% increase in Sunday and holiday allowances
- +3 additional vacation days from the 15th year of service
- 6th week of vacation from the 18th year of service
Signal for fair work and safeguarding the future
"Railways are an industry of the future and create climate-friendly mobility for all people in Austria. This agreement will improve salary and working conditions, which will also make the railways attractive for the urgently needed new colleagues."
With this agreement, the vida trade union is sending a strong signal for fair pay, better working conditions and sustainable job security in a key industry of the future.
