vida represents the interests of employees from a wide range of professional groups in the transport and service sectors. Representing them all equally well requires good organization.
The trade union congress is the highest body of the vida trade union. Every five years , the delegates elect the nationwide leadership bodies.
An important point at the trade union congress is the political positioning for the coming years: How can we achieve more distributive justice in our society? What measures are needed to ensure that jobs and people's social security count more than profit again? And of course, the trade union congress also serves to take stock of the past years.
The Federal Executive Board is the highest body between the trade union congresses. This is where the work programme and the budget are decided.
Voting members are the members of the presidium, the state chairmen, delegates of the vida industries (departments), three representatives of each department and at least one representative of the recognized parliamentary groups.
The Presidium conducts business between the Federal Executive Board meetings and is obliged to report to both the Trade Union Congress and the Federal Executive Board. The Presidium consists of the Chairperson, four deputies, the Chairpersons of the eight vida branches, the Chairpersons of the Women's, Youth and Pensioners' Department and another three members.
The Federal Chairman is responsible for the political leadership of the trade union vida and thus has the right to mandate and issue instructions.
He represents vida in public and has to ensure a uniform political line.
In addition, he chairs the Federal Executive Board and the Federal Executive Committee and carries out the ongoing organisational and substantive coordination with the Federal Executive Board.
Young people – women – pensioners. They all have to deal with a wide variety of problems and challenges in their working and living environment.
vida offers different strategies and offers to support young people, women and pensioners individually in their areas of life. This is done in close cooperation with activists of our movement who stand up for the interests of the vida groups.
vida is divided into eight departments or industries. Each department actively shapes the world of work. This includes collective bargaining negotiations as well as cooperation with alliance and social partners or the introduction into legislative processes.
Across the diverse sectors in the vida trade union, common goals and concerns of all employees are taken up. They are combined in thematic platforms to change the world of work across industries.

In addition to the central organization at the federal level, vida is also regionally structured: into nine state organizations and numerous regional organizations.
