Vocational school
The choice of your apprenticeship also determines which vocational school you attend.
The vocational school is a part-time school and school attendance is compulsory for you. This means that as an apprentice, you are obliged to attend vocational school regularly and take exams.
At the vocational school, you will learn technical knowledge, theoretical knowledge and general knowledge. In practical subject lessons, you will work in workshops or laboratories.
Yes. For the duration of the lesson, you will continue to receive your apprentice income from your instructor.
Vocational school time = working time. Absence from class can be a reason for the termination of your apprenticeship contract!
If all or part of the lessons are cancelled on a school day, there is generally an obligation to work.
This obligation exists if the time required, i.e. the distance between your vocational school and your company, is reasonable for you.
ATTENTION: If you attend a course or seasonal vocational school, you may not be employed in the company during your actual attendance at the course or seasonal vocational school.
- Perennial: Classes take place once a week on a full day or two half days.
- Course wise: Lessons take place in blocks with at least eight weeks of continuous lessons.
- Seasonal: Classes take place continuously in a certain season.
ATTENTION: If your teaching time on a day at the vocational school lasts eight hours or more, you are no longer allowed to work in the company on that day. If you go to a course-based or seasonal vocational school, you may not be employed in the company while you are actually attending school.
You usually bear the costs of accommodation in the vocational school boarding school yourself.
Exception: If the costs for the vocational school boarding school are higher than your apprentice compensation, your instructor must pay the difference.
ATTENTION: Some collective agreements provide for more favourable boarding school cost regulations.
Job description
It is important that you are well trained during your apprenticeship.
Therefore, there is a so-called job profile for every apprenticeship. Arranged according to apprenticeship years, it lists all the skills and knowledge that you need to be taught in the company.
