Railway CT 2023

In 2022, a salary agreement was concluded for employees in the railway industry, which increases collective bargaining and actual wages by a total of at least 480 euros by February 2024.

In the first year of the term, this resulted in an increase of between 8.0 and 16 percent with a gradual increase in the minimum increase to up to 20 percent!

In December 2023, the second part of the agreement will now begin to take effect. The average inflation of the last 12 months serves as a basis. As a result, the collective bargaining agreement and ACTUAL salaries will be increased by at least 8.3%. Allowances and ancillary fees are also protected by 8.3%.

Agreement improved

As persistently high inflation continues to be a major burden, the social partners today once again improved the agreement from 2022. Originally, the lower incomes were to be supported with a minimum amount of 190 euros from February 2024. This increase in starting salaries will now take place as early as December 1, 2023, in order to help employees earlier.

The minimum amount of 190 euros results in a wage increase of almost ten percent in these wage groups. This means that an increase of at least 480 euros was implemented in 12 months instead of 14 months.

What you get as of 01.12.2023:

  • The full inflation compensation in the period from 1 December 2022 to 30.11.2023 in the amount of 8.3% and also from 01.12.2023 at least €190

2022 was a special year in many ways.

Record inflation was topic number 1. In Austria, the word "inflation" even takes first place in the election for the word of the year. The negotiations around a new railway collective agreement were correspondingly tough and sluggish. The railway workers finally showed on 28.11.2022 with a 24-hour warning strike how united they are behind the demands.

Inflation 2023

December 2022: 10.2 percent
January 2023: 11.2 percent
February 2023: 10.9 percent
March 2023: 9.2 percent
April 2023: 9.6 percent
May 2023: 8.9 percent

June 2023: 8.0 percent
July 2023: 7.0 percent
August 2023: 7.4 percent
September 2023: 6.0 percent
October 2023: 5.4 percent
November 2023: 5.3 percent

Average 2023: 8.3 percent

Historic result

On 13.12.2022, a historic result was achieved. The financial statements were made for two years and are to be understood as two separate 12-month financial statements. Here you can find the details for the first part of the financial statements again.

The second part includes the following points:

  • as of 01.12.2023 again full percentage inflation compensation
  • as of 01.12.2023 further increase in valorizable ancillary remuneration by average inflation
  • The basis for this is the average inflation from December 2022 up to and including November 2023 – source: Statistics Austria
  • Those pay levels that were increased below €190 on 01.12.23 will be increased to at least €190 from 01.02.2024
  • so if you are below a sum of 190 euros with the percentage increase as of 01.12.2023, this minimum amount will apply
  • Total duration until 30.11.2024

Thus, with the agreement reached, we were able to achieve a minimum increase of a total of 480 euros as of 01.02.2024! This means an increase of between 20 and 25 percent in starting wages.
